Check Out This Week's BCU Featured Stylist - Megan Bithell @_mb.hair_
Meet this week's BCU Featured Stylist! Megan's gorgeous lived in color work caught my eye!
Let's get to know Megan! She's a lived in blonde and balayage specialist out of Manchester, England. You can find her on Instagram at @_mb.hair_. I asked Megan a few questions so I could learn more about her and her journey. Check out our conversation below!!
+How long have you been doing hair?
Over 17 years
+Tell me about yourself. Are you a salon owner? Booth renter? Commission stylist? What is your specialty behind the chair. What are your goals?
I have my own business called MB hair and I'm also a hair educator. My specialty behind the chair and what I love to do is lived in blondes and balayage. My goal is to set up my own educational platform to teach and inspire the younger generations in the hair industry.
+What's been the best advice you have ever received?
If you make a mistake, don't dwell on it or get upset, and don't let it ruin your confidence. Instead learn from it, realise where you have gone wrong, and push yourself to do better.
+What do you feel is your greatest strength?
I feel like my greatest strength is communication with clients. I find out as much information as I can about their needs and hair goals to get the best results for them. This strength has helped me stay consistent and build a loyal clientele over the years.
+What advice do you have for other stylists?
My advice to other stylists is to find your niche and perfect what you love doing by educating yourself. Don't be afraid to say no if you don't feel confident in a particular area. I personally don't feel confident doing fashion/bright colours and I used to give myself anxiety if I'd booked a client in for this service but I eventually learned to say "no, sorry, I don't offer this service" and instantly felt better about it.
+What do you feel is the most valuable part of being a BCU member?
I feel the most valuable part of being a BCU member is how well it has helped me to stop overthinking my foil placements. It has definitely helped me in areas I didn't feel confident in and improved my skills behind the chair. Carly is an inspiration and has inspired me to carry on down the path of education for my own business.
+Anything else you'd like to share?
More advice that I would give to upcoming stylist is to use social media to advertise yourself. Don't let your own confidence stop you from achieving yours goals and if you want to go self employed go for it. Do all your research for your business set goals for each year and don't stop until you reach them!
