How to brighten fragile blonde ends

color formulation color technique

Wet balayage while the foils are in? I know, I’m so crazy ðŸĪĢðŸĪŠ

Wet balayage is one of my FAVE techniques to use when I’m blonding. I use this to refresh blonde ends that cannot go into a foil because they're too fragile. Here's what I do:

👉🏞 dampen the hair with water so that it's just a little bit damp, not soaking wet
👉🏞 take random sections of the fragile ends and apply clay lightener (usually mixed with 20 volume) on them and let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes

If you're wondering, I dampen the hair for a few reasons:

👉🏞 I find that it’s so much easier to create a seamless blend on damp hair
👉🏞 the water dilutes the bleach and makes it a bit gentler on the hair

***water also has a higher pH than hair and can slightly swell the cuticle, potentially making the lightener work more quickly/intensely. BUT, the bleach is also diluted, so I still feel like this is a gentler option.

I created a brand new course called Blonding Academy: Foundations of Foiling where I go majorly in depth on all things blonding and how to create the blondes of your dreams. And there’s a whole section on “Blonding Add Ons” where I cover things like wet balayage and all the things beyond just a basic foil that are needed to give your clients their dream blondes.

Click HERE to get in on my free masterclass where I discuss how I stopped winging it and started having a step by step strategy for blonding. Plus I talk all about my brand new course and there’s a special discount offer for you!!
