One of the best ways to eliminate brassiness
I used to make this mistake allll the time. A client would come in with super brassy hair and I would maybe pop in a few brighter pieces to break everything up but then everywhere else I would just gloss with a light, cool toned gloss in hopes that it would cancel out all the warmth and leave me with a more neutral blonde.
❌ I often ended up with a more dull and muddy looking (but still brassy) end result.
It took me a while to figure out that one of the best ways to eliminate a ton of warmth and brassiness was by lifting through it (Which terrified me because I didn’t want to over process the hair 😅).
🔥 In this particular situation I lifted through the existing warmth and each foil had a combination of lighteners: one for the new growth that was a bit stronger, and one for the existing light and brassier pieces that was more gentle and wouldn’t damage the hair. I ALSO used a lowlight that was strategically selected to cancel out some warmth and darken some pieces for contrast.
