Reasons why your formula didn't cover the grey
Have you ever rinsed out color on a client who wants their grey covered and realize that it either barely covered the grey or didn’t cover it at all?! Here are 3 reasons why that may have happened:
⚡️you didn’t add enough warmth: I think of grey in a similar way to going from blonde to dark. In order to get full coverage and have it not look hollow and blah, you need to add the missing pigments. Warmth is a huge part of that!! A lot of lines have an N that offers plenty of warmth and that’s a great base for a formula, but if you still aren’t getting good coverage, add more gold!
⚡️your formula wasn’t dark enough: did you use a level 8 on 100% grey color and wonder why it didn’t cover? Going a bit darker with your level will ensure that the pigment is intense enough to cover well. I find this to be especially true on really white, resistant hair! I like to match their natural level or go a tinyyyyy smidge darker if their hair is super super resistant.
⚡️you used the wrong type of color: I loveeee demi permanent color for grey blending, but sometimes it’s not enough for the coverage that your client wants. It’s what’s in the tube or bottle of color that’s dictating how well it covers grey, NOT the developer. So if you thought a demi color would be enough coverage, but it still looked too translucent and light, try a permanent color!
I’m a big fan of Schwarzkopf Igora Royal for grey coverage!
