When & how to do a root shadow
Do you see the difference? It’s subtle, but adding a root shadow to a highlighted look can give just a little bit of depth at the root to soften intense contrast, and blur any lines of demarcation.
WHEN I do a root shadow:
➕when I want to blur a line of demarcation (not completely erase it) and create a “shadow”
➕usually I do this after highlighting
HOW I do a root shadow:
➕tap the color on at the root and don’t drag it down
➕comb with a wide tooth comb to blend any lines of demarcation
➕process for 10-20 minutes
WHAT I use for a root shadow:
➕I love to use a demi permanent color (unless I’m trying to lift the natural base color or cover super resistant grey)
➕I use a color that’s 1-2 levels darker than the blonde pieces (so if I lifted highlights to a level 9, I use a level 7 or 8 to root shadow with)
I used Schwarzkopf Igora Vibrance 8-0 and 7-21 with 6 volume lotion developer in the photo above.
