When to use horizontal vs. vertical foils
This concept confused me for so long 😅 Let me explain why I pick one over the other:
➡️ VERTICAL:
👉🏼 I think of vertical foils as “strings”
👉🏼 can show a lot of dimension in between foils (but it varies depending on how far apart the foils are!)
👉🏼 it’s usually my go to for highlight touch ups because I have the best control over how much dimension I leave
➡️ HORIZONTAL:
👉🏼 I think of horizontal foils as “sheets” (think sheets of paper getting stacked on top of each other)
👉🏼 can create an overall more solid look (but it varies depending on how far apart the foils are!)
👉🏼 it’s usually my go to for going from all dark to all over lighter because it hides dimension
But to be clear, could you make vertical placement look super blonde and solid? Yes. Could you do a horizontal placement and have dimension? Also yes. There are so many factors to consider…these are just general ideas!
Knowing these foundational pieces of blonding are the things that helped me stop winging it and start feeling confident with blonding.
